FTC cautions about Sept. 11 victim fund scam, other charity fraudsters

Fraudulent telemarketers pretending to represent charities may try to pull on heart strings not only to scam people out of money but also to get their personal information, the Federal Trade Commission warns.

The FTC last week warned of fraudsters who misrepresent themselves as fundraisers for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, a federal government program to assist people harmed by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
