Scholars urge FTC, app makers to do more on privacy protection

App developers and the Federal Trade Commission, which could have a complete turnover of commissioners, need to do more to reduce threats to privacy from the Internet of things and other advanced technologies, computer scientists and privacy experts said Wednesday.

Because of app developers' practices, users can’t always figure out when they are being tracked and how data brokers can find out information about them, Northeastern University professor Alan Mislove said at the agency’s PrivacyCon event.
