San Jose takes aim at baseball’s antitrust exemption

(July 30, 2013) -- As we head into the dog days of summer and the baseball pennant races heat up, the City of San Jose has decided to throw a fastball of its own that takes dead aim at Major League Baseball’s antitrust exemption. That exemption, conferred by Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes in his famous Supreme Court opinion in Federal Baseball Club v. National League, 259 U.S. 200 (1922), simply has no place in today’s game, the City alleged in a lawsuit....
