Internet company markets grants, money: FTC seeks injunction against 20 defendants

(January 17, 2011) -- The FTC has targeted an Internet business that allegedly offered government grants and low cost Internet money making opportunities to consumers. The Commission charged Jeremy Johnson, nine of Johnson’s associates, I Works, Inc., and nine additional affiliated companies with misrepresenting information. Johnson and his associates, the FTC charges, created 51 shell companies to carry out the alleged scam. The defendants misrepresented their products and failed to inform consumers about additional memberships and services for which consumers would be charged, according to the Commission....
