Sen. Klobuchar zeroes in on airline mergers in her first hearing

(March 29, 2013) -- In her first hearing as chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights, Sen. Amy Klobuchar signaled her concern about growing consolidation of the airline industry, as she quizzed executives of American Airlines and US Airways about their proposed merger. But the Minnesota Democrat’s macro-economic considerations took a back seat for much of the hearing, as many other lawmakers focused on the more parochial issue of how the deal would affect service to communities in their states.
